During the middle of year 2003, as an entrepreneur, my sole interest in Southern Style BBQ made it certain that soon I would be building my brand and smoking my signature BBQ meats, as this was a passion I enjoyed doing for many years.
In 2002, after a personal financial set back from deteriorating partnerships in the bakery and deli business, and on the brink of bankruptcy, I knew the only way I could make this passion I had for BBQ become a reality, was to prioritize my financial concerns for my family and how I could and would provide quality food and service to my community.
After closing my deli business one afternoon, for what seemed to be the last time each day, a black Dodge dually pulled into the parking lot. Behind it, a shiny stainless steel BBQ smoker. This person walked in the restaurant, and during our conversation, I realized he was a rep for this smoker company. "Ole Hickory Pits". He seemed to be pulling my white chariot, sent by my angel of mercy. This is the answer to my passion for cooking as well as my financial foundation. I immediately refuse his offer to purchase this BBQ pit as it was out of reach financially. This man offered to leave it with me for 90 days, train me to operate it, and stated that it would be the turning point in my business. He said, "Bainbridge needs a place for people to sit down and enjoy good BBQ". That month Boyd's BBQ and Grill was born and things began to come full circle.
The dreadful day came when he returned to pick up this BBQ smoker. He saw for himself that my business had tripled, it was continuing to grow each day, and the community was very supportive to have a family BBQ restaurant. Having no way to pay him for this equipment, he informed me that he would finance the BBQ Pitt. That alone was the answer to make all of this happen. As of that day, this man became my very best and dear friend. He has never left my side and has been my personal mentor in the BBQ business.
He is Robert Worseley. He holds many national and state BBQ Competition titles during his twelve year tenure of competition BBQ cooking.
Becoming a debt free business within four years, in 2007 Boyd's BBQ & Grill purchased a mobile BBQ Pit unit to provide our community with catering services. We have now been smoking for over fourteen years and provide the best BBQ possible for our community as well as providing great service for our customers. I am thankful each day for the support the community has shown and to Robert for his trust and friendship. We now employ six full time and six part time employees.
